New Halo 4 screens
Some of you thought when I posted those Reach scans that I was full of fanboy hype at the visuals. Nay, good sir or madam. The hype is real and for a damn good reason. Halo 4 is looking “You’re telling me this is going to run on my Xbox and not one powered by plutonium” good. Check out the images for yourself and then think of how this baby is going to look in motion. Might I add, I love seeing the Metroid Prime influence in the new HUD. I guess those dudes from RETRO studios now over at 343i added a dash of Samus to Mister Chief. As you can also tell, 343 knows how to make faces that don’t look like they were beaten with an ugly stick. Let’s hear it for progress!

Take a look at the top FPS shooters today. They all have a lot in common. Yes, different games have different physics, graphics, weapons, and other elements that make them up, but the core purpose of the game is the same in every popular FPS today. That core purpose
In recent months the gaming community will have alot more MMOs that are being played. This is because creators of MMOs are now making them free to play. Of course you don’t get to play the whole game, but you still get a “free trial” of sorts. I bring this up because of recent additions to the free to play MMO count. Starting today you can play Rift till you reach 20 and in March you will be able to Everquest 1 *with limits*. MMOs never sparked my interest, not because they weren’t fun, but because you had to pay an insane amount. I pay $60 a year for Xbox live which equates to about $5 dollars a month. Mind you for that price I can play any game I buy forever (until they shut the servers down). So one game new cost $60 plus $60 a year, I pay $120 a year to play one game online for a year. Take Everquest before the free to play and it costs $15 a month coming to $180 a year for one game. Already more than playing one game on Xbox. Now let’s add another game. For xbox that’s another $60 new. So now I’m at $180 for two games for 1 yr., which is the same price to play Everquest for 1 yr.. Add another MMO (we’re gonna assume its the same price as Everquest, since our Xbox game was the same price). Now we are looking at $360 a year for just 2 games. Now you see why MMOs don’t look appealing. Although now MMOs are going free to play. Used to the only MMO I played was Runescape (back when I was 12) and now I play DC universe… Why? Because they offer free versions. Finally MMO creators are realizing that if we make a free/ trial portion to our game we will get more players instead of charging them an arm and a leg to spend half their lives in their game (seriously MMOs are super addictive, I warn you). So yea I guess the points are; creators getting smarter, MMOs are free to play, and now mine, and possibly your, game library will be expanded to include these MMOs. So go try Rift, DC Universe, and in march Everquest.

Today, as many people have found out, Apple unveiled “The iPad”. Not iPad 3 or iPad HD, but just iPad. It did turn out that most rumors were true about it (4G connectivity, 1080p screen res, and the A5 processor). I will say I am a little disappointed that we didn’t get to see a new “iPad 3” made of unicorn tears, but what Apple did is what needed to be done. We as a society have gotten used to companies, mainly Apple (they started it), release a new product every year around the same date (video game reference for the article is that Call of Duty does the same thing and should follow Apple’s lead). This yearly release is nice, but not always necessary. To be honest it is probably hell for the company releasing the product because they have to come out with new features for their product to make people gitty enough to buy it, even though we are begging for it to come out. These yearly releases can also be to blame for the problems we see in today’s products, like the antenna problems in the iPhone 4. Used to companies, like Apple, could take a year to make the product or longer and have plenty of time to test it and debug it, instead we get products that have been rushed out and not fully debugged. What apple has done recently with the iPhone 4s and The iPad is they said “Hey, we can’t give you something worthy of a new numerical number, so we are just gonna update what is already perfect and make it so the competition still won’t be able to catch up.” Donald Bell from CNET says it better than I can-“I have to admire Apple’s gamesmanship. It was the first to make a tablet people cared about. Then, just when the competition started to feel confident, Apple sliced the iPad to an impossibly thin design. For its third act, Apple has pushed tablet screen expectations to a ludicrous new height.”
To me this is a smarter move. Apple knows they have awesome products and after seeing that the iPhone 4S sales, despite people freaking out over the missing 5, were the best they have have had yet for a phone. They are deciding to slow down and do the things they feel need to be done, without having to completely design a new product. It’s called updating, and outside of the iPhone world it is pretty popular for a lot of things.
So yea that’s my take on it, and I am happy Apple once again made the update move.
